This is a beer brewed in Amsterdam by our American friends from Marz Brewing, Chicago, and named after the neighbourhood where their own brewery is based. Unsurprisingly, there is a heavy American influence here, which means lots of hops, American hops. Nonetheless, their bitterness is beautifully balanced with the equally significant amount of malt a barley wine naturally requires. There is plenty of roasted and caramalt in the rich malt base of this deep, dark, glowing beauty. This American barley wine has a full, soft, rich but very balanced taste. To top it all off, there is a rich, full, creamy layer of foam.

330ml bottle from Saveur-Biere.fr. Pours a warm reddish brown with small off-white head. Intensely strong and sweet barley wine but oh so smooth with caramel and fruity notes taking turns to emerge. Lovely.

Mahogany brown with thin head. Aroma is very perfumed with syrupy fruits and piney hop. Flavour has the sweetness of dried fruits. Especially dates. Also dry hoppy bitterness and a touch of warming alcohol.

33 cl bottle @ home. Clear deep red-brown color. Light beige head, uneven, rocky, sticky. Aromaβs: resinous with malty sweetness. Additionally some fruit and hash retronasal. Flavor is moderate sweet, some fruit, moderate bitter. Medium bodied. Finishes herbal spicy, moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Nice try, but not totally convincing.

Bottle. Brown copper beer. Aroma of raisin, caramelised malt and a little passion fruit. Taste is quite bitter, with sharp grapefruit and pine, caramelly raisin, biscuit and some booze. Thin body, with a slightly soapy finish. Weird beer, I don?t really like it.

33cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Clear dark brown colour, dense beige head. Aroma is quite hoppy, pine, grass, some citrus, mostly pine/spruce, toast, malts. Flavour is malty, toast with some burnt edges, some caramel, some alcohol, mostly hoppy with pine and some citrus, bitter finish. Medium bodied. I just really donβt like hops that smell and taste like eating a pine tree that much. This wouldβve been so much nicer (for me) with more floral and fruity hops.

Bottle at gollem. Pours rather clear, dark brown copper glow. Ok white head. Smell is bit sweet, hoppy bitterness. Taste is bit bitter, malts hoppy character, good mouthfeel, less thick than the average BW , but very nice for the beer it is. Bitter back. Good carbo.
