Old rating from 2014 - 500ml bottle from La Cave a Bulles, now sadly shut. Poured at home in Jersey, it's amber with a white creamy head. Aromas & tastes of citrus, lemon, spices, black pepper, herbs, earth & flora. Moderate body. Light finish

500ml bottle, no dating.

I removed the cap and it wanted to gush but nay, I say. That was temporary.

It pours a lightly hazy straw gold with a fluffy head of foam.

Smell is very spicy. Fennel, pepper, light clove, very earthy, hints of tartness but that may be from the spicing.

Fennel and very peppery taste, dry, earthy, again, hints of tartness. Unusual flavours here and it takes some getting used to.

Medium body with lively carbonation, especially on the back of the throat.

Lots of sediment in the last pour, it’s bottle conditioned. Once that was in my glass, I think I enjoyed it more.

Worth trying.

Bottled 330ml @La Trappist, Caen
Hazy yellow color, small white head. Herbal, fruity aroma. Light to medium-bodied. Watermelon, peach, oregano, light herbal spiceyness in the flavor. Mellow and easy, uninteresting.

Sample at the brewery. La mome, this saison pours a cloudy light gold with a filmy white head. The nose is funky, vegetal, cork - it smells kind of off. Taste is chalky on a light body, truly a wine like cork funk, light fruits, refreshing but not so memorable.

Bottle in the hotel lobby, RBWG ’15, night 2 - 20/02/15 thanks to whomever shared this number. Lightly hazed golden with a moderate off white head. Nose is light piss, tangy citrics, lemon rind, straw. Taste comprises lemon rind, bitter orange, grassy, faint bread, light spice. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. A touch basic.

Bottle (assumedly quite fresh) drunk at Les Trois 8, 4/24/15
Light orange hued golden beer has a moderate, slowly receding white head. Clarity is very high, with little/no sediment left in the bottle.
Unusual aroma for a saison. Granted they do call it a saison orientale, on account of the lemongrass and ginger I believe. It’s not overly spicy, but yet, it’s not peppery, hoppy or really malty either. I guess biscuity malts, very light fruits (apple, melon, unripened strawberries) and some rather dull lemongrass. The beer is clean, however, with light minerals and just a touch of acidity.
Peppery and very dry up front, it progresses through light touches of white bread in to a finish of lemongrass that is impressively reserved. Would not confidently identify it blind. Carbonation is brisk but mostly tight, keeping it drinkable and light throughout. Lightly vegetal, but only on account of the adjuncts. Interesting, for sure, and well-brewed but again, nothing much here (some resemblance in the fruity esters) says Saison. My rating is more for a belgian golden.

Bottle shared late night during RBWG 2015. Pours Clear yellow with a creamy white head. The nose has some pale bread, hay, rindy citrus. Medium sweet flavor, some cereal, biscuits, mild bitter straw. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Basic finish, some further pale malts, lemon rind. Very simple, but drinkable.
