We've been wanting to brew an English-style barleywine for a long time. While we have brewed various strong ales over the years, nothing has been as traditional as this one. When we lost one of our dearest friends, Tony Lubold, we knew it was the perfect time to brew it. Our intention is to brew this beer every year and release it around Christmas time and dedicate it to someone we love here at the brewery. We brewed this with an all British malt bill consisting of Maris Otter malt, Amber malt and Crystal malt. It was hopped aggressively with some British hops to help balance the huge malt bill. It was then fermented low and slow with our house English yeast. We get huge notes of caramelized figs, toasted oak, figgy pudding and remembering those that we hold close to our hearts. Cheers!

Bottle to snifter.
Appearance: dark rugged maroon to muddy earthy brown color with a finger and a half's worth of white foamy head that slid off eloquently to leave some light lace.
Aroma: light leather, dark fruits, light nuts, grassy to earthy hops, oaky, light toast, dark breadiness and an ever so slight touch of baker's chocolate late in there
Flavor: wraps up the prior noted aromas together fantastically sweet in a dry way and leads into the aftertaste as well
Texture: medium bodied, sure is a sipper! some dryness gripping the tongue; finishes leathery, semi-nutty, and earthy sweet
Overall: I'd say a very nicely done English barleywine I'd very much love to have again.
