Abita Wrought Iron® IPA embodies the resilient, indestructible nature of New Orleans. This india pale ale is forged with the intensity of Apollo, Ekuanot and Mosaic Hops. Brewed with pale ale malt for a golden color as bright as iron from a fiery forge. Wrought Iron® IPA pairs well with grilled meats like steaks or pork chops. Grilled sausages are great too, with some spicy mustard on the side. It also pairs well with the spice, meat and seafood in jambalaya. A mild goat cheese is an excellent choice with Wrought Iron® IPA.

Bottle from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours translucent gold with a slight white head. Aroma is rather pungent, but there is some melon and fruit. Med+body. Flavor is pungent and melon, with some things that could be burnt rubber and phenol or earthy. Not saying it’s so, just that there is a lot of hop here, and it’s not working in a familar way. There’s detectable caramel support, but this is all about hop. Strong hop. Not dry. Fairly bitter. It gets a bit more fruity and tropical with some time passage.

12 ounce bottle from Total Wine West Richmond. Pours a hazy amber with a large creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of citrus hops, pale malt and a hint of resin. The taste is tropical, citrus hops, creamy pale malts, reminiscent of an orange creamsicle. Medium bodied, mild lingering bitterness.

Pour is a hazy copper with a average white head. Aroma is a full caramel malt sweetness with some pine hops. Flavor is about the same. Some caramel malt with a decent hop backbone. Not as sweet as I thought it was going to be. This actually finishes pretty dry. Been a while since I liked a new beer from Abita.

Location: Draft at VBGB, 2/24/15

Aroma: Solid hop aroma, some citrus, a little grain/cereal, grass, and floral notes
Appearance: It pours a hazy copper color with decent sized off-white head
Flavor: The flavor is much the same, decently bitter, some grainy hop sweetness, solid
Palate: Medium bodied, with an average carbonation, and a fairly clean, somewhat dry finish
Overall Impression: I found this to be a solid, enjoyable, drinkable IPA. No complaints about this one. Abita should probably aim for this level (or higher) on all of their beers.

12oz bottle pours with a slightly hazy copper body that has gold hues and supports an off white head. The aroma offers up resiny pine hops, a bit of grapefruit and then biscuit to caramel maltiness. The taste starts with mango juiciness, grapefruit hop bitterness and then it quickly gets into caramel malts that seem out of place here. To midway it picks up a pineapple infused resiny pine hop layer. At times the off caramel note fades away and then this ipa comes together a bit better. All in all nice firmly hopped Abita offering.

12oz bottle. Slightly hazy orange body. Foamy white head, steady. Sort of middle of the road offering from Abita. Nice to see them sort of updating the hop profile from the classic 90s style IPA NW feel to a tropical, citrus tinge. Nice hop depth, still leaning more into the bitter than the light floral and citrus notes. Enjoyable.

Bottle. Orange-vanilla caramel malt and light orange peel aroma. Cloudy amber with small head. Sweet creamy orange caramel malt and mildly bitter orange peel flavor. Medium body. Malt flavor thick - nearly overwhelms the hops.

Lilly, pineapple, and mango nose. Hazy amber, thin head. Whole mango and lemon zest flavor, hints of pineapple. Medium body. Fantastic hop bill! It’s not often I get this impressed with an IPA as they usually are good, but this stands out.
