Abita Wrought Iron® IPA embodies the resilient, indestructible nature of New Orleans. This india pale ale is forged with the intensity of Apollo, Ekuanot and Mosaic Hops. Brewed with pale ale malt for a golden color as bright as iron from a fiery forge. Wrought Iron® IPA pairs well with grilled meats like steaks or pork chops. Grilled sausages are great too, with some spicy mustard on the side. It also pairs well with the spice, meat and seafood in jambalaya. A mild goat cheese is an excellent choice with Wrought Iron® IPA.

Crisp, slightly hazy copper and bronzed coloured body with tints of orange, all with a one centimetre tall off-white head - nice. Aroma of fragrant citra and hybrid hops with a nice malt smell as well, and hints of yeast. Medium-bodied; Assertive tropical fruit flavour with a little grassiness and some subdued biscuit malt flavour at the end. Aftertaste shows a well-refined and deeply fruity hop flavour with some sweetness, malt, alcohol and light grain tucked in. Overall, a nice IPA with a definite hybrid/experimental hop flavour and a strong balance throughout. I sampled this twelve ounce stubby bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Washington (Foggy Bottom, Eye St NW), DC on 27-May-2015 for US$2,49 sampled at home in Washington a day before Independence Day here in the Nation’s Capital on 03-July-2015.

355ml bottle Appellation Wines. Pours golden amber with a light haze, thin white head. Aromas of lemon, tropical fruit, skunk, resin. Taste is bitter, with a big whack of sweet crystal/caramel, resolving into a clean strawberry note. Balances out nicely on the finish mind you. Very drinkable.

Sampled from the bottle at the St. Paul Beer Fest. Pours a clear gold with an off-white head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has a perfumey citrus and a light grain backbone. Flavor also has perfumey citrus with a bit of grain and some flora.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 4/24/2015. Pours moderately hazy/cloudy orange/amber color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, caramel, toasted bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/tropical hops and moderate malt sweetness; with good strength. Taste of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, caramel, toasted bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of pine/citrus rind bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, mango, lemon/orange peel, pine, caramel, toasted bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness and complexity of bright citrus/tropical hops and moderate malt sweetness; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, moderately sticky, and slightly creamy mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice IPA. All around good complexity and balance of bright citrus/tropical hops and moderate malt sweetness; and very smooth and crisp to drink for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
