Ragged Mountain is a cider blend of classic apple varieties - Albemarle Pippin, Winesap, Black Twig, Grimes Golden and Stayman - historically grown on and around the Ragged Mountains. This is a semi-dry cider crafted to please a wide range of palates. It is good with spicy foods and pairs well with sharp cheeses and fruits. The back of the label describes how this cider was named:
The Ragged Mountains are a small chain of rugged hills southwest of Charlottesville, Virginia, and home to Albemarle CiderWorks. This area's orchard heritage inspired Albemarle CiderWorks' revival of the craft of fine cider making. The Ragged Mountains are legendary locally as home to rugged mountain people whose self-sufficient lifestyle was a throwback to an earlier America. The region's air of mystery and intrigue inspired Edgar Allan Poe, once a student at the University of Virginia, to use it as the atmospheric setting for his short story, "A Tale of the Ragged Mountains."

From a tasting flight at Albemarle CiderWorks. Poured a clear, very pale, almost clear yellow color with no head at all. Apple was really nice in this one, light fizzy notes. Light apple skin? Dry, tasty. Favorite of the bunch.

Bottle. Crystal clear golden yellow color, white coca cola head that settles to champagne bubbles. Aroma of tart apple skins, subtle lemon. Taste is herbal, bright apple, slight tinge of medicine. Decent.

Rubber and apple nose. Crystal clear yellow.. Dry and lightly tart apple. Just a slight hint of barnyard. Apple core finish. Tartness builds from start to finish. Dry but flavorful, somewhat one dimensional, but flavorful. Well executed.

750 mL bottle from the cidery shared at Immy’s Backyard Throwdown. Pours a clear, pale off-white color with lots of carbonation. Aroma of sweet and tart apples. Taste also features both sweet and tart apple notes. Dry overall with a champagne like quality. Medium bodied. Very nice.
