It’s quite basic even for a mild. Soft toasted brown bread, a caramel accents, rather sturdy earthy-ashy bitterness. A little burnt toast. Not bad.

Dark brown with a creamy white head and minimal chocolate malt aroma. Light bodied but smooth, lightly roasted malt, a touch of fruit and nut chocolate and a dry finish.

Third of a pint in my local Spoons on Sunday 8th March 2026. Dark brown body, soft beige roof, looked good. Decent enough mild with a pleasant malty base, semi sweet before the hops turned it a little less sweet and giving a dry feel in the finish.

Cask at Wheatsheaf, Stoke. Pours a (very) dark reddish-brown with a small foamy cream head and good lacing. The aroma is mainly malts, but with some hints of caramel too. In the mouth it is sweet and smooth with a creamy texture, but also a little underlying bitterness. Flavour is fruity malts plus traces of chocolate and cola. This decent enough but a little one dimensional.

Wetherspoon Spring Beer Festival 2026, Beer#5. Clear mahogany-red coloured brew. Nice and mild as any regular mild should be, with an underlying sweetness to its darker malty character. Good associated aroma for the style too.
