LASSO is the new frontier of India Pale Ale. Brewed with a robust roundup of Columbus, Centennial and Cascade hops, its sessionable simplicity proves bigger isn’t always better. But make no mistake – the Wild West hasn’t gone mild. That same untamed IPA spirit thrives, and we reckon this’ll go down mighty fine.

Bottle from The Beer Junction, Seattle
Hazy amber color, small color. Moderate cereal character, dry, fairly hoppy and bitter.
Nice but too much cereal character.

12 oz. bottle, pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma is quite muted, with piney hops, vegetal notes, and a slight biscuity malt backing. Flavour is bland, with notes of dry, astringent hops, with a very thin dry malt backing. Not very interesting here, but nothing off-flavoured at least. Decent, but unexciting.

Crisp light copper coloured body with a very thin, one centimetre tall just white head. Aroma of fresh hops, yeast, wort, lemons and a bit of cardboardie funk as malt. Light-bodied; Strong flavour of grassy and very perfumey hops with a kick of lemons and yeast noticeable and a hint of very light honey sweetness. Aftertaste shows only a touch of the hop bitterness, but mainly a very mild and slightly watery finish. Overall, a decent light IPA with some bitterness up front, but not enough depth or complexity to be a good beer from this style. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle given to me at the brewpub in Denver, Colorado (due to it being a low-fill) on 07-June-2014 sampled at home in Washington on 14-August-2014.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 7/24/14

Aroma: The nose is on the lighter side, citrus (mostly grapefruit), grains, and floral notes
Appearance: This one pours a murky gold-orange color with a thin head and streaks of lace
Flavor: The flavor is mild sweetness, with a clean, light-medium hop bitterness
Palate: The body is fairly light, with a solid mouthfeel, average carbonation, and a dry finish
Overall Impression: This is another solid Session IPA. Not my personal favorite in the style, but I can certainly see its appeal, and I'm always happy to see more in this style. As far as I'm concerned there really can't be too many (and there are already quite a number) low ABV IPAs.

Draught at Akkurat. Almost clear deep golden liquid with a medium off-white head. Aroma of earth, floral hops, grain, citrus, tea and bread. Taste is dry and medium bitter with notes of earth, floral hops, grain, citrus and wort. Light to medium bodied with medium carbonation. Nice but maybe a bit tired.

Draught @ The Rover. Pours golden with a frothy offwhite head that slowly dissipates while leaving some sticky lacing and trace on the glass. Smell is tiny sweet and tiny fruity with caramel, grapefruit juice, orange zest, lemon zest, moist grass, pine needles and unripe pineapple. Taste is tiny sweet, bitter, tiny fruity and tiny malty with dark bread, caramel, grapefruit juice, orange zest, lemon zest, moist grass, pine needles, unripe tropical fruits and hints of buttered biscuits and resinous wood. Mouthfeel is round, slightly astringent, slightly watery and light bodied. Finish is bitter with buttered bread, grapefruit juice, orange zest, lemon zest, moist grass and pine needles. Not too fresh but still quite drinkable...

12oz bottle pours with a clear copper body that has thin gold edges and supports a light tan head. The modest aroma offers up sweet malts, a mix of fresh mango and citrus candy and then it gets into a bit of spicy to floral hops near the end of the draw. The taste delivers pleasing malt sweetened yet punchy fresh citrus hop bitterness that’s largely grapefruit and tangerine like. It then slides into light notes of floral hops, spicy earthy almost dank hops and a nice faint drying earthy tea note. This is a solid 5% brew with plenty of yummy fresh flavors, balance and harmony. Is 5% an imperial session IPA?

Minty grass and tea hop aroma. Cloudy amber, medium head, chunky, lacy. Grass and tea flavor, somewhat resinous. Rather than low bitterness, it goes the other way. Hop bill is pilsnery. Kind of stale. Great brewer, strange interpretation of the style.

Some bitterness, pours orange with ok head and lacing. Finishes bitter and citrusy with a little malt. Mostly towards the hops. Comes together ok with average carbonation. Tap at Summerfest DC.
