Bottle, Wine Warehouse, CHO. Pours black with a good head. Smells of coffee and leather. Taste us a dry roasted coffee and malts. Light smoke in the near end. Good stuff.

12 ounce bottle into signature pint glass, best before 1/31/2016. Pours crystal clear very dark brown color with a 1 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted oats, dark bread, light smoke/dark fruit, herbal, floral, and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted oats, dark bread, light smoke/dark fruit, herbal, floral, and roasted earthiness. Light herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted oats, dark bread, light smoke, and herbal/roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-moderate roasted dryness after the finish as well. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/silky/bready, and slightly chalky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 5.4%. Overall this is a damn good oatmeal stout. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

From a 12 oz bottle shared at home. Pours a clear dark cola with an ecru head. Light malty nose. Flavors of licorice, leather and tobacco. Light bitter roast finish.

Draft. Very dark brown color, tan head. Nice aroma of malted milk balls. Taste has espresso, chocolate milk. Very nice.

Dark black with brown edges. 1 finger head. Light roast and smoked nose. Very faint ashy notes. Not much taste. Peated malt and cinnamon with cocoa powder

Draft in my hand at the source. Black with no head. Aroma is burnt sugar, light coffee and dark roasted barely. Flavor is a.duplicate with a lingering sugar sweetness. Lactose without question. Flavor has a low level of roastyness with the correct flavors in style. Very easy to drink if you are not lactose intolerant. Mild creamy texture gives it decent drinkable ability.

Tap at Sidedoor. Deep black, stained glass red corners. Steady creamy beige head. Leans heavily into the oats,, very sweet and lactic. Just hyper sweet, medium body. Certainly a little odd, not as stylistically classic as most GL beers. Sweet sweet stout. This would be a hit on Antigua, but not one I’d go back for more of. Really pushes into new realms of Stout, I’ll give it credit for that.

Sampled on draft at the House of 1000 beers this beer poured a black color with a small foamy beige head that faded quickly and left minimal lacing. The aroma was dry, bitter, woody and a touch roasty. The flavor was dry, bitter, very woody, a touch sour and roasty. Long bitter and woody finish. Light to medium body. Blah.

On draught at the brewpub. GLBC has a couple great Stouts, namely Blackout (esecially the Barrel-Aged) and Wolfhound. Being a Stout-lover and knowing their track record, I was looking forward to their take on the Sweet Stout. While not disappointed, the beer does fall just a bit short. The beer pours black as pitch with a thick and foamy light tan head and sticky lacing. Aroma of roasted coffee and chocolate. Creamy with a medium body and roasted character. Flavors of coffee, malt and chocolate are tasty but don’t resonate long enough. The finish is dry with a mild bitterness. Good for the style, but I know GLBC could do even better.
