Twelve months ago we set out to brew a big, thick, sweet stout with the sole intention of ageing in bourbon barrels we had arriving (a mixture of George Dickel, Wild Turkey, Four Roses and others). It hasn’t disappointed! If you like your stouts with plenty of barrel pick up and residual sweetness, this one’s for you.

Bottle shared with my bro for the final leg of our personal beer 'festival'. Pours black with almost no head. Aroma is very rich and complex, very sweet with loads of vanilla and some oak. Big smooth body. Flavours are very rich and complex. Sweet and the lactose is definitely noticeable. Lots of vanilla and bourbon too. All in all a beautiful BA bourbon impy, which is very sweet and rich.

Bottle from Brewcraft at home. Dark dark brown with light toffee head that’s thin but stays. Aroma is big boozy vanilla and burnt sugar with milk chocolate and dark fruit. Taste has a boozy burn throughout. Milk chocolate, dark fruit, some sharp bitterness. Rich but not syrupy. Long lasting boozy burn. Very milk chocolate (not dark chocolate), which seems less common. Quite sweet but not treacly. Very well done, and the bourbon barrel very noticeable and complementary. Would get again.
