Sampled from the bottle at the Oklahoma Craft Beer Festival. Pours a clear dark amber brown with a yellowish brown head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has a decent amount of roasted malts with some chocolate and dark grains. Flavor has notes of dark grains and roasted malts with a bit of dark fruit.

Bottle, 75cl corked. A dark brown beer topped by a small, beige head. Perhaps a bit weak aroma, with raisins, dried figs, some chocolate and roasted malts. Some funky, spiced notes too. It’s full-bodied, soft and lightly warming on the palate, with flavors of raisins, dried figs, some brown sugar and roasted malts, and a little touch of chocolate. Nice carbonation level and bitterness that suits the sweetness. Lasting finish. Perhaps a bit too subtle this one, but at least it drinks easy. 150612

Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, dried fruits, chocolate, wood, and some spices. Tasts is medium sweet and light to medium bitter with a long slihgtly warm, dried fruity, chocolate and caramel finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

It’s a very dark brown colour with an inch of tannish foam and good lacing.
The smell brings me lots of oak and vanilla backed up by dark fruits and chocolate of the sweet kind.
The taste starts off very sweet, just on the edge of being overly so when the other elements kick in.
The woody notes from the oak, vanilla, chocolate, some caramel malt, spice, and a light level of tartness.
Medium body with medium carbonation.
Very tasty brew that does have the alcohol a bit heavy handed but slow sipping works fine.

750 ml bottle a Christmas present from my daughter’s family. Nose is red winy oak, fruity, and hints of dark chocolate. Clear dark brown with a big heavy lacing beige head. Flavor is wood, fruity, and lightly sweet.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, 2012 vintage bottling. Pours clear nearly opaque dark brown/black color with a 2 finger dense khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big raisin, plum, cherry, fig, chocolate, cocoa, toast, dark bread, molasses, light coffee, pepper, oak, herbal, light funk, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity yeast, dark/roasted malt, and light-moderate oak barrel notes; with good strength. Taste of big raisin, plum, cherry, fig, chocolate, cocoa, toast, dark bread, molasses, light coffee, pepper, oak, herbal, light funk, and yeast earthiness. Light fruity tartness/yeast spice on the finish; with lingering notes of raisin, plum, cherry, fig, chocolate, cocoa, toast, dark bread, molasses, pepper, oak, herbal, light funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity and robustness of dark/roasted malt, fruity yeast, and light-moderate oak barrel flavors; with a great malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, fairly creamy/bready, and slightly acidic mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice Belgian strong dark ale. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity yeast, dark/roasted malt, and light-moderate oak barrel flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

100th rating! Pours a dark copper from the bottle. Aroma is of dark chocolate, cherry, and some slight citrusiness. Flavor is chocolate and...A1 sauce I swear! A little vinegary, a fair amount of sweetness. I feel like this was trying to choose between a Belgian ale and an imperial stout and wasn’t able too. Good beer.

Served from growler in tulip glass. Dark ruby with thin head, more carbonated than typical stouts. Licorice/chocolate nose, pleasant enough. Tart fruit notes within the taste, somewhat cloying. Thin body for this style, but not watery. The long finish is that cloying part of the flavor that hangs around too long for this to be a great beer.
