I have been pleasantly surprised with Adelbert's before so what the hey, let's give Black Rhino a try. This 750 ml bomber was picked up at a supermarket in the DFW area this past summer. Now on the coldest day of the year I pull the cork and tilt into my New Belgium snifter. It delivers a dark, almost black liquid with a finely bubbled, straw-colored head that thins out promptly. The scent is light fruit, perhaps apricot, malt and cereal, actually not bad. The taste, a bit unusual, sort of a mix between a stout and a Belgian. A hint of coffee, the maltiness again, yellow raisin and grain. No bitterness. Much more subdued than the imperial stouts and Belgian ales I like. But then it is 5.6% abv, practically a session beer. Buy again, probably not, but I will enjoy this bottle.

A hot mess like spilled poutine. Dark brown pour with big mocha head and lacing. Some caramel and unfermented sugar. Sone booze. Tangy finish with hint of florals. Tap at airport.

750ml bottle c/o Elise shared at GTMW ticket line 2014. Unfiltered black-brown body. Foamy beige head. Medium bodied, roastier than most Belgians. Nice fluffy carbonation. Sort of like a Dunkel, belgified. Sweet and easy, rich, nice depth. Classic, well done.

Bottle. Gusher. Very dark brown color, massive tan head. Aroma of burnt caramel. Taste is fruity caramel. Hmmm...

750 c&c from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is dark malt with a touch of cocoa nib type chocolate. Med body or so. Flavor is earthy, dark malt and not much coffee - but a little bakers chocolate seems present. Earthy, unsweet chocolate. Not really very bitter, except for the earthiness, and I’m not getting much in the way of fruity ester. Maybe a little yeast/spice. Yeah, sort of like I’d imagine a Schwarzbier made with Belgian yeast. Don’t know why it has such a low rating, except perhaps it is very different. I’m a drinkin it all!
