Cypher is a clean and crispy New Zealand Pilsner (with a Boombox hoppy kick) that we put together for the Superflux Freestyle Fest: a celebration of New Zealand’s “Freestyle Hops”.
An all pilsner-malt base provides the backbone to showcase a generous dry hop of Maui Nelson Hop Kief and Riwaka Hops. These bring forward those tropical notes we love from so many New Zealand hops… off the top you’ll get mango, guava, passion fruit, papaya, meyer lemon, and a touch of sweet grapefruit, all showcased in a light and refreshing Pilsner.

Bright, bubbly head. Biscuity malt, a somewhat toasty hop and some hing in there. One day I will figure out where that comes from. Sweetish palate, yeah that is an unusual hop character on this.

May 11, 2026 (8/4/7/3/16=3.8): Poured from 473mL can (forgot it in the back of the fridge; pkg 2026.02.24). Clear gold with white head. Slightly dank, almost juicy, NZ hop tang, almost a slight creaminess about the malt which is odd for a pils, but fits together with the rest of the beer. Decent.
Mar 28, 2026 (8/4/6/3/15=3.6): Poured from the tap @ Superflux. Clear gold with small white head. Aroma has nice dank NZ hops. Taste is a bit subdued. Could be age, I have a can at home to compare.

473mL can, pours a clear pale golden with a medium white head. Aroma bursts with intense Riwaka—so much of that spicy piney hop tang—with more of the gooseberry from the Nelson in back, and a crisp biscuity malt base. Flavour is likewise vibrant, with big oily, piney, spicy hop tang, a touch of gooseberry, and crisp biscuity malt. Bright, with great clarity; wonderful expression of the NZ hops, especially the Riwaka.

On tap at Threefold. Pours clear blonde with a white head. Biscuit malts, melon, and berries on the nose. Flavour has biscuit malts, melon, tangy berries; great NZ hop expression. Moderate carbonation. Fantastic.
