Nomikai (飲み会) is a Japanese word that loosely translates to “drinking gathering”. Commonly the term is used to describe going out with your colleagues, particularly your boss, and drinking well into the night in the name of bonding. And boy, do we know a thing
or two about that!
We identified so strongly with this Japanese concept that we decided to brew up a super crisp, ultra refreshing Japanese Rice Lager for our advent box to celebrate it.
To make Nomikai, we turned our brewing kettle into a ‘cereal cooker’ and cooked up enough rice to feed our brew team 100 times over. We then added in some light pilsner malt, a pinch of hops and let the clean lager yeast do its thing.

Draft at Mountain Culture, Redfern. Sydney. Poured a crystal clear golden colour with a mostly lasting frothy white head. The aroma is creamy, light cardboard. The flavour is moderate to light bitter, with a light, somewhat watery, smooth, mineral, cardboard, light hop bitter palate. Medium to light bodied with average carbonation.
