A long time ago, we emptied a bourbon barrel, rinsed it out, & were done using it, so we put it outside (standard procedure). A few days later, we returned to find a colony of bees established in it. We figured “finders keepers”-congratulations on your new home, little guys. After a quick phone call, local honeybee rescue company Bee Leaf USA showed up to safely relocate the whole barrel, hive & all. Here we are a few years later, making a honey beer, so we touched base and got honey that was made from our very own old beehive barrel. We infused that honey into a base of Mega Devil’s Teeth, aged for 30 months in Bourbon Barrels, & added Tanzanian Vanilla. It’s rich with vanilla & a restrained honey note, not too much, just bee-nough! Show Less

Sweetish, slightly earthy and roasty with some woody barrel, vanilla, hints of honey, syrup, toffee and warming alcohol. A bit heavy.
