A unique blend of locally grown craft, grain, and ingenuity – this unique beer focuses on a malt bill composed of 100% Virginia grown whiskey malt. We found local maltsters who provided us with the perfect blend of smoked and unsmoked malted barley that when combined with our Virginia mountain water and yeast, created a beer darn close to whiskey and water! Gentle Wolf has a light malt flavor and aroma with just a touch of smoke and oak.

Light sourness, comes together ok. Pours blonde with good head and lacing. Like a pale ale but it’s been contaminated. Smoked sour? Not sure. The girl at the Summerfest had this mixed up with their Schwartzcake in the beginning and I had to sort her out after she gave me attitude about it. On tap at DC Summerfest.

Draft at the brewpub. Pours a clear golden color with a thin fizzy white head. Fair head retention. Aroma of smoke, doughy malts. The taste is smoke, nuts, pale malts.
