Poured up on tap, at the Carolina Beer Co at the Charlotte airport, where it exhibits a clear copper body that supports a light tan head. The aroma offers up malts, mineral notes, tangy bitter smelling hops and then a fading empty despair sensation. The taste delivers a bitter hoppiness, some near tart hop astringency and then a bite of mineral nuanced malts. This tastes like a mediocre 1990’s IPA but firmly sub par today. It leaves a bitter astringency behind that lingers into the after taste. Plus, airport pricing makes this an exceedingly low value.

Sample at the Biltmore Village taproom. Clear reddish-orange color with a medium off-white head that diminishes quickly to an outer ring. Spotty lacing. Aroma of piney hops, fruit and malt. Medium body with flavors of resiny hops, fruit and sweet malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a short citrusy hops aftertaste. Decent overall.

Brewvival 2015 Trip #16. Keg at the Asheville location. Pours a clear copper red with a large creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of caramel malt, citrus and candied citrus hops. The taste is bitter pithy citrus and tropical hops, caramel malt. Medium bodied, well balanced.

Location: Draft at the brewery (Asheville), 1/1/15
Aroma: It has a clean hoppy aroma, some pine, and a little caramel
Appearance: This one pours a caramel-ruby color, with an off-white head on it
Flavor:The flavor is along the same lines, some nice hop flavors, and a good malt balance
Palate: This one has an average carbonation, a medium body, and a fairly dry finish
Overall Impression: I really quite enjoyed this "Red IPA." This is a very nice beer. Definitely something I would drink again, and one of the best things I tried at Catawba.

2014 RBWG Draft at the brewery tasting room. Mostly clear copper with a white head. Aroma of resiny pine hops. The flavor carries the same light pine bitterness through to the dry finish.

Draft - Grapefruit with a bit of pine. Orange with a big head. Lots of grapefruit and bitter pith. Not really getting the malts to make this red in anything but color. Still a decent IPA though.

On tap at the Asheville location. Pours a clear copper with a red hue and a white head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma is full of pine hops with a touch of grass and a bread backbone. Flavor starts a bit thin but has a nice pine and grassy hop finish.
