How do you design a dark beer to be light yet still interesting? We think we achieved it with this beer. We brewed this brown porter with a plethora of specialty malt but achieved a lighter body and flavor than most porters. Late additions of molasses and smoked sea salt added some complex flavors and an elevated fermentation temperature provided some fruit forward notes that we think work well together.

Into a becher glass.
Appearance: dark brown close to black in color with a finger's worth of white foamy head which dissipated nicely to leave a little bit of lace
Aroma: molasses sweetness with dark roasted malts, light coffee notes and some cocoa powder then some light salt underneath
Flavor: meshes the prior noted aromas to a fine sweet with a slight roasty tone and then a subtle salty tone underneath; finishes mostly sweet and roasty
Texture: light to medium bodied, slightly sessionable. Some smoothness and the saltiness seems to be restrained enough where it doesn't really distract at all
Overall: seemed odd initially but the more I sipped this, the more I thought this is actually pretty good and works well enough to return to.
