An alien-like outsider, always flirting with oddity and exploring anxiety and paranoia. A style chameleon, a wonderful labyrinth and truly a transcendent genius. It’s impossible not to idolize out of proportion. This is a stout. It may not be a hero but it’s attractive, clever and hungry for stardom.

Big can from Beer Gonzo. Pours black, thin tan head. Aroma is roast, coffee. Taste is much of the same, smooth light mouthfeel. Earthy roast welcomes a nice hop presence, some milky chocolate. Not overly complicated.. decent session stout.

Can shared in London - many thanks to Cloin. Pours deep brown with a foamy, beige head. Burnt toast in the nose, some raisins, grapes, cocoa. Light to medium sweet flavour with nice mocha, roast, scorched earth, baking cocoa. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Good balance in the finish, with more toasty malts, bittersweet chocolate, some dried berries. Nice depth, good balance. Solid.

Poured into a nonic pint glass, the appearance was a pure black as dark as night color. Finger’s worth of tan foamy head started and dissipated at a nice pace. Rimmed delicately around the glass, messy lace forms adequately.
The aroma started with a pure roasty coffee bean flowing into some nice subtle cocoa bean (dry with a strong sweet, but still faint).
The flavor leans roasty with a bit more bitterness forming on my tongue. Roasty to bitter aftertaste with a quick finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sessionably bitter and roasty coffee bean sharpness. It’s showing some harshness on my tongue but the carbonation also feels right on par, so for the most part, this is good.
Overall, this is a nice American styled stout that I wouldn’t mind having again.

Really good stuff Maynard. Aroma is mainly toasty malt. Flavor is where it really shines with fairly dry toasty malt up front with just enough carbonation and then in the Finish just a touch of sweetness that comes out for the perfect ending. Extremely drinkable fantastic beer. Very well-balanced.
