It’s impossible not to idolize out of proportion. This is a stout. It may not be a hero but it’s attractive, clever and hungry for stardom.

16 oz can poured. Jet black in color with a tan foam head that lasts. Toasty, roasted malt forward aroma, hinting to a robust stout. Flavor is a good roast, paired with a mild chocolate. Not sweet or rich, though I typically expect it to be in an oatmeal stout. Slight warming feature. Creamy, but again, not sweet. Nothing but a delicious stout here. Ideal imperial sweet stout.

Can. Inky black with large milk-chocolate colored spongy head,mocha aroma with a hint of berries, med carbonation, bitter roasted malt taste, thin body, medium bitter finish. Quite balanced, and an exemplary stout.

1 pint can. Pours black with full head that settles to a couple of big bubbles. (Why are cans like that?) Aromas of ash, chalk, stale blackberries, microwave popcorn, and slick roasted malts. Flavors of dry roasted metallic malts, ash, and bitter dark cocoa powder. Old style and a bit oxidized.

16 ounce can. Pours a jet black color with a small beige head. A nice nose of coffee and roast. Sweet, vanilla, coffee, heavy roast, lactose. A very smooth beer, but very flavorful. Fills in that great 7% stout range which often ends up as a FES. Dark fruit, bitter metal. Lovely.

16 oz can poured into a tulip. A little overflow upon opening. Black with a bit over a finger of tan head. Aromas of dark chocolate, roasty notes, a touch of caramel and toffee. Tastes of dark chocolate, roasty notes, a little burnt coffee, toasted oats. Medium body with a dry finish. Creamy mouthfeel. Pretty good oatmeal stout.

500mL can, pours black with a small brown head. Aroma brings out lots of oats, dry cocoa and a touch of coffee. Flavour is dry, full of hearty oats, dry bitter cocoa and once again a touch of coffee. Hearty palate, exactly what one can hope for in an oatmeal stout. Really nicely done.

Can found in Canada, drank in Europe. That’s the way she rolls these days, eh. Pours with a massive dark beige head, black body, good stuff here that will impress your friends at the house party in looks alone. "Oh look, how cool, it’s got big foam" the chicks will say, and you’ll be golden for the rest of the night. Yeah - only in beer geek’s dreams. The aroma is swampy barley, no sharpness, lacking in any hop contingent I do believe, not an exciting profile and causes for concern once it goes down into your gullet. Flavour is a lot of muddle barley with hints of chocolate, though not much. Very smooth on the mouth, creamy, good stuff for those who like those kind of beers. Nonetheless, not exciting - a typical porter. Lacking in a lot of different areas to make it interesting, probably good for a nightcap or at a house party or something where you needs to entertain a lot of different tastes. But this ain’t blow-yer-mind style porter fo shizzle, sadly. And I keep on searchin’, searching for you..... (I swear that’s a song from somewhere)
