Can: Black, with a giant, thick, brown head. Black coffee, mild anise aroma. Taste is mildly bitter coffee roast, chocolate malt, espresso, oats. Ashy and earthy bitter. Solid, but less creamy than expected.

16 oz. can purchased at 7-11. Thick tan head on top a black liquid. Aroma is big on roast, chocolate and light char.

The body is nice and full as you expect from a oatmeal stout. Full chewy texture over the palate. The roasted notes started good when it was cold, as it warmed up it becomes overly roasted, over extracted coffee like hints. Mildly astringent. First impression was good but started to wear on me after 10 or so ounces. It’s ok.

16 ounce can into snifter; Batch#001, no can dating. Pours pitch black color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy dark tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted oats, dark bread, light smoke/char, herbal, light pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of roast/bready malt and moderate earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted oats, dark bread, light smoke/char, herbal, light pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness. Moderate roast/char and herbal/spicy hop bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted oats, dark bread, smoke, char, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/bready malt and moderate earthy hop flavors; with nice malt/bitterness balance, and zero astringent hop/roast flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from roast/hop bitterness, that increases through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready, and sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice American oatmeal stout. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/bready malt and moderate earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Lantern Hall, Brooklyn tap: pours black with a beige head. Robust roasted malt aroma, along with some dark roast coffee and maybe a choco taco. Taste is bitter, malty, and very robust. Medium bodied. Good drinking.
