Imperial Porter Aged in Rum Barrels with Spices
Floyd D’Rue is one half of a collaboration between Three Floyds Brewing Co and The Bruery. Both breweries being known throughout the kingdom of beer geeks for larger than life barrel aged beers, it was only fitting that this brew would be something of a similar scale. Working together to create a brand new recipe for an imperial porter at 14.7% ABV, the beer was then laid to rest in rum barrels for one year. Going with a spiced rum theme, additions of vanilla bean, orange zest, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, star anise, nutmeg and fresh ginger were added just prior to bottling. The result is a fantastically robust ale with hints of citrus, rum, chocolate, molasses, exotic spices and toasty oak.

Bottle shared by AdamJackson, thanks for the opportunity! Wow talk about polar opposites! Huge brown sugar molasses and spices in the flavor and aroma. Reminds me of a gingerbread cookie or a winter warmer more than a porter at this point. this might be fine sipping about 2 oz in front of a fire on a cold night but I really couldn’t drink much more of this.

75CL stored cold and enjoyed split 2 ways? Gotta invite over more people to drink this. Pitch black. mild head fades slowly. Very sticky alcohol legs, espresso coloured head. Smells like jelly bellies and cheap licorice and band-aids and soap. The taste is even worse. Cough medicine, twirlers, cherry cola, thin mouthfeel. booze isn’t actually that bad. very sweet with rum finish.

Bottle @ Greg’s apartment. Thanks to John for sharing. Pours a thick, black appearance with a thin, dark brown head. Cinnamon, vanilla, anise, dark chocolate aroma with some fruitiness. Gas station orange candy flavor with some black licorice, booze, ginger, molasses, and dark chocolate. Spicy and pretty boozy. Spices are a bit crazy.

Bottle thanks to Will/Lee. Pours a dark brown with tan head that lasts. The aroma is amaretto, spice and coconut. Thin mouthfeel with weird flavor and bitternes. No
