22oz bomber pours with a clear deep gold body that supports a white head of foam. The aroma offers up apricot, peach and pineapple hop like fruitiness as well as cedar to oak wood spiciness. Nice balance where the wood is there but doesn’t overwhelm. The taste has rich inviting notes going on like malt sweetened peach and mango and cantaloupe. Those notes are punctuated by spicy oak wood just as the hop bitterness makes it to the surface. Nice tasting stuff.

22 ounce bottle. Amber gold color with a small white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is toasted malt with notes of citrus, butterscotch and alcohol. Unusual bittersweet toasted malt flavor has notes of whiskey, lemon, pepper and wood. Very noticeable alcohol presence. Overall, not a lot of complexity, mostly the alcohol dominates.

Bottle (from 5/14/13). Pours with a clear golden hue with a medium sized fluffy, eggshell hued head. Average retention. Aromas are malty, fruity and estery, alcohol, canned pineapple, pineapple upside down cake, mild hop, woody, maple. Flavors are big, sweet, malty, earthy, woody, fruity, pineapple upside down cake, fusel alcohol, mild wood notes. Pretty dry with some ethanol perceived sweetness. Bready and biscuity malt, medium to low bitterness. Fuller bodied, somewhat lowish carbonation.

Max’s Taphouse, Baltimore tap: Pours golden with a white head. Aroma is barrell-aged aroma, vanilla, whiskey, and sugar. Taste is somewhat sweet. Very little hoppiness. Pretty easy to drink considering how hefty of a beer this is. Surprisingly well-balanced. Don’t think I would want to drink a whole bomber of this though.

Bottle. Pours orange gold with quick dissipating off white head. Nose and taste of pancake syrup, birch sap, vanilla extract, malt, orange creamsicle and booze. Full bodied. A bit sticky and too sweet.

Tap at Great Divide - lightly hazy gold - very sweet ans syrupy nose, with notes of tropical fruit, vanilla, coconut - flavor is much the same - syrupy sweetness, a lot of coconut, some tropical notes - astringent bitterness and a boozy alcohol burn on the tail end - glad I spent a buck on a taster and not 9 bucks on a bomber.
