This bold and deliciously complex beer is in Imperial Buckwheat Stout aged in Tequila barrels for 13 months. Only a collection of pioneering, well seasoned, extensively traveled and passionate pub owners could come up with such a notion. A massive grain bill consisting of Pale, Munich and toasted Canadian buckwheat was blended with pearled drum-kilned barley from Chile, a generous amount of Wisconsin roasted wheat and a slug of British Crystal malts. a couple lumps of Mexican Turbinado sugar were added for good measure while we loaded the kettle with Styrian Golding hops. This carefully calculated collision of flavors, concocted over copious amounts of Orval well into the night, was laid down in fresh Tequila barrels wrangled over our southern border by the beautiful and gracious Meg Gill. We simply called the beer PNC in honor of its collaborative creators – the gothic symphony of flavors will speak for themselves. The week that PNC rolled into Paso was one to remember, but more importantly the PNC's role in the craft beer revolution should never be forgotten. Cheers to the PNC!

*Note*: this original version was only aged in tequila barrels, whereas the 2021 version was aged in tequila, bourbon, and brandy barrels.

On tap at Apex. Pours black with a beige head. Aroma has bourbon and rich malts. Flavour has huge bourbon up front with roasted malts and wood throughout. Smooth mouthfeel. Fantastic, has held up very well for an 11 year-old beer.

2013 Bottle shared at DACBE New Year's share. Pours a deep brown to black with almost no head. Carbonation is very low as well. Dark fruit aromas with prune, blackberry cacao nib aromas. Some port-like aromas as well. Tequila seems to have faded to the back a bit. Some leather and oak with toasted, dried vanilla and cacao nib notes. Full bodied and thick. Lingering oak, dried chocolate and warming finish.

Draft pour at Bottleworks, from their anniversary party. Glad this survived the storm! Pours black. A heavy booze aroma to this. Some chocolate. Flavor is extremely thick, with vanilla, graham cracker, chocolate, cinnamon, and cookie. Dessert stout for sure, and delicious. Late coffee addition late. Sweet, but not too sweet. Boozy, but not too boozy. Fun, and delicious.

Bottle at apex. Pours a cloudy brown color with a small whisp of head. Huge nose of Tequila and toffee. Fresh huge citrus, lively malty toffee, caramel, huge fruit beer. Awesome. We split the bottle with some cool folks from Nevada. The overall flavor is robusty fruity barrels with huge sweet malty bases of toffee, chocolate and molasses. Damn awesome.

Bottle @ home shared with Countbeer. Opaque pitch black color, medium to full sized brown head that diminishes fairly quickly. Aroma is malts, bourbon, raisins, lightly vanilla, chocolate, sweet overripe dark fruits. Taste malts, lightly vanilla, bourbon, tequila comes through a little while I didn’t get that in the aroma, alcohol, bitter, slightly roasted malts. Medium body, medium carbonation. Lovely beer, but the flavor isn’t on the same level as the aroma.

Bottle bought at Toronado SF in August 2013. Batch nr 001. Black with a small tan head. Very nice aroma of licorice, tequila and something that reminded of Kahlua. Similar taste, also dark chocolate, dried fruit and oak. The finish was long and with warming alcohol. A great beer!

Sample from 2013 bottle at Kurtkeller 018: Tequila-aged and Let’s Agree to Ruin Our Evening with Pepper beers-tastic 01 on 11/04/2014. The beer is an opaque black color with a medium thick tan head that diminishes gradually. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of tequila, dark fruit and chocolate. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky vanilla, figs, chocolate malt and subtle tequila. The finish is oaky and chocolaty with a boozy aftertaste. Very good all around.
