Can. Clear amber with a large off-white head that laces well. Aroma has sourish rye bread, caramel, grass. Never really loved the smell of rye. Smooth, medium bodied, moderate carbonation. Bready with lots of rye, grass, pepper. Some orange and grapefruit that didn’t quite fit for me. Firm bitterness. Distinctive and characterful.

A spicy base from the rye which gives it a nice cloudy amber color. The aroma is hoppy with a slight funk. The flavor is nice, malty, sweet & spicy. A solid beer.

Aroma is dominated by malt. There is quite a bit of rye with some secondary biscuit and cracker notes. There is some muted woodsy hop notes, but this is definitely not what I think of when I think of a California IPA. Pours a murky copper color with hints of amber. A thin slightly white head recedes steadily leaving a thin film on top and along the edges. Flavor starts fairly sweet with some rye spice as well as some light caramel. Some faint cracker notes and moderate biscuit. Mid palate the bitterness an hop flavor hits. The hops are very woody and grassy. The bitterness is fairly strong but clean. The finish is fairly sweet but not quite sticky. The bitterness and hop flavor lingers a bit in the finish along with some rye spice and a touch of alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium to medium full bodied with medium low carbonation. Low but present hop astringency. Low alcohol warmth. Overall this is a very English style IPA with a very English hop profile. The rye is different for the style but woks well with the woody hop character nice but definitely not my favorite IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

sharp, lots of hoppiness, full body, astringent and the rye doesn’t particularly shine, but still very pleasant.

Bottle, although I have seen cans since buying this bottle. No clear date coding. Pours with somewhat deeper amber golden hued body with a medium sized slightly off-white head. Aromas are sweet and malt forward. Biscuity, caramel, toasty, grainy, corn nuts, low esters, sunflower seeds. Some citrusy and marmalade characters, but they are in the background. Faded, but this still seems fresh. Flavors are both sweet and nutty. Very much malt driven with a medium to medium low bitterness. Low citrus hop character towards the back. Malt character is more toasty than caramel like which is nice. Light bready, spicy malt character, but it still kills the hop flavors. Medium ester, somewhat dry, but not particularly dry. Light floral. Missing hop flavor and aroma. Bitterness is there, and malt flavor is big, but tolerable, just needs way more late and/or dry hop charater. Clean, low brewing flaws, but just not enough hop character.

Bottle. Pours reddish amber with off white head. Nose is perfumy hops, toasted grain, caramel and rye. Taste is heavy perfume - too much for my taste - rye, caramel and spent grain. Bitter finish. Medium body.

Pours a deep orangish brown with a medium white head. Immediate aroma is floral and slightly sweet, with bready malt odors. Taste is similar. Alchohol notes are hidden well, the immediate taste is floral, followed by a sweetness as the hops kick in, and finished with bitterness. All in all a decent, not great, IPA (by the way, per prior review, the bottle does not note this as a double, and calls it a rye IPA).

Bomber listed at 7.1% ABV and 85 IBUs from Whole Foods in Folsom, CA. Label only claims to be an IPA (rye centric IPA). Pours copper with a 2.5 finger creamy off-white head. Aroma has that spicy rye aspect. Full bodied. Creamy carbonation. Flavor is definitely rye with a lot of fruit, floral and probably grapefruit rind for hop. This is quite a tasty ale. The carb backbone is clearly present to the finish, and nicely supports all the hop. In the end there’s rye and a bitter hop burn. Excellent.

Draft. Listed as California Rye IPA @ 7.1%. Amber beer with a cream colored head. Sweet caramel and light pine aroma. Pine and caramel flavor with grapefruit and earth. Medium bodied. Pine and caramel lingers with earth and grapefruit.
