A blend of whiskey barrel, wine foeder, and stainless aged sour beers, Love Child No. 4 opens with an aroma of red fruit and underripe strawberries. Slightly more acidic than previous Love Child releases, this blend marries dark fruit flavors with subtle earthy notes of leather and mushroom with a lingering, acid finish that closes crisp and dry.

(750ml bottle shared @ VilleValla Pub, Linköping, Nov 14 2014) Pours a clear orange-brown with a moderate bubbly white head that leaves a little lace. Aroma has a nice sour fruity nose with lots of lactic acid, sour apple, cherry, lemon etc with a bit of malt sweetness, woody notes, rather vinous but with hints of the whiskey barrels (though hard to pinpoint if you don’t know it was there). On the palate, initial big hit of lacto, lemon, apple, red berries, quite woody. The sourness dampens a little from the middle on, letting the decent malt core support the fruit and quite a bit of barrel, wood and wine with hints of the whiskey too. On the finish, tart white wine acidity and fruit clings to the top of the mouth while the tongue gets a dry, oaky barrel flavour with a bit of funk. Mouthfeel quite light and effervescent, crisp and not at all heavy for the ABV. Very cool sour, not the funky complexity of a lambic because the character is basically lacto, but the malt body is sufficient to hold that sourness and let the mix of barrels come forward. Really easy to drink too, could be dangerous stuff.

Location: Bottle shared by someone (Dave?) at Dave's Bachelor Party, 9/27/14, Palindromic Rating # 3993!

Aroma: This one has a nice mix of funky/horse blanket, berry, and tropical/pineapple aromas
Appearance: The pour is orange-amber with a small off-white head and light lace
Flavor: The taste is funky and a little sour, fruity (more sour than sweet), with a light oak/wood
Palate: The body is medium-plus, it has a soft carbonation, and a tart, dry finish
Overall Impression: Slowly but surely closing in on 4k and knocking off my backlog at the same time. I really enjoyed this one. This may just be the best thing I've had from Boulevard. Very nice.

Tasting at Matt’s, corked bottle
Hazy dark amber color with small head. Nice aroma, sour and with some fruit. Good body strength, malt flavor, very sour, a bit lemony, but also with traces of acetone.
Not very complex, but very good.

750mL bottle, pours a clear orangey amber with a small white head. Nose brings out complex yeasts, oak barrels, light vinegar and light acidity. Flavour is complex, with different yeasts, fairly high acidity, moderate vinegar, oak and some very sour fruits. Very tart and acidic, but somehow very drinkable, masking the alcohol very well. Not the most elegant sour, but this is executed very well. Very nice stuff.

750ML split 2 ways. 3 finger head. sort of a blood orange appearance Nose is cherry pie and a lot of sour with a touch of bourbon. This is a very sour beer. Lots of sour in this beer..whiskey like coconut and vanilla finish. lots of tart funky grapefruit sour up front with lime and woody tannins. I gotta say that I’m not actually impressed by this one. sour in all the wrong ways. interesting blend though. touch of diacytyl at the finish.

Bottle pour. Thanks for the bottle Keven! What a special beer this is. Pours a super cloudy caramel color with a lasting fizzy head. Faint sour fruit aroma. Super intense, growing sour fruit flavors. Really sour, and I love it. Can’t say enough about this one. Top 5 beer for me for sure. Love it.

750 mL bottle, 6/16/14. Pours a hazy orange color with a thin white head. Decent head retention. Aroma of dry funk, moldy books, tart citrus, dark fruit, earth, marzipan, pepper. The taste is tart, bright citrus, tart lemon, caramel, cherries, dark fruits. Medium bodied, low carbonation, strong lingering tartness. Very, very nice.

Bottle from Percy’s.
This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a light hazy orange color with a half fingered white foamy head that dissipated within less than about forty seconds. The lacing really didn’t show much as what was there just slid right on into the body.
The smell was funky, sour, and tart fruit - nose puckering - eye wrenching almost making me rub my eyes just a bit. Holy powerful!
The taste presented the same flavors through a strong citrusy conglomeration of the funk, sour and tart. Woowee, this stuff doesn’t seem something to mess with.
On the palate, this one was about a light to medium on the body with no sessionability whatsoever. It was just not balanced in no way whatsoever. Sourness rolls over my tongue and pummels it into submission,.
Overall, oak - what oak? haha, no way was that found whatsoever in this one. Balanced, ha, in no way. Would I have this again? Haha, was that question a joke? I’ll be looking forward when this sour ale phase dies, wow, what an over rated beer.

From the August 2014 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured an orange-brown color with a medium sized foamy beige head that faded quickly and left a bit of lacing. The aroma was sour,t art, chalk, citrus and almost vinegar. The flavor was tart vinegar, lemon, soy Pez and chalk. Long finish. Medium body. Ok.
