West Coast style India Pale Ale that combines 6 malts and 6 hops with additional dry hopping for three weeks. It takes about a month and a half to make each batch and we think it is worth the wait. Hints of pine and citrus with a powerful, yet balanced hoppy flavor, Hopitoulas packs a punch that you won’t forget.

Can at Sander’s place, NYC. Not crazy about this beer. Pours clear copper with a moderate, creamy-foamy head. Nose holds some dry caramel, earth pine and herbal hops. Light to medium sweet flavor, more dry, toasty caramel, herbal and lightly astringent bitterness. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Some toasty malts to finish, bit of dried caramel, elderly pine and herbs. So so. Might be a little old.

Tap on Bourbon Street. Hazy dull deep amber-tan-brown. Big foamy off-white head. Much more enjoyable than their Blonde or Wheat, this is a respectable medium to full bodied IPA. Middle of the road hop wise, pretty classic orange-pine hop taste. Standard but enjoyable.

Can. Pours a nice orange/copper with a thin head and aromas of silo dust and a little citrus. Flavor is grainy with a caramel sweetness and a little hops punch at the end. The hops are muted and directionless in this can. Maybe a little bit of oranges and grass.

Poured up on tap at GABF 2012 with a clear gold body supporting a light tan head of foam. The mild aroma offers up a sweet mix of orange citrus like hops and earthiness and then a little grassiness near the end of the draw. This taste is smooth tasting and seems hop flavor forward that starts a little sweet with malts mixing with orange and grapefruit hoppiness creating an orange juice sensation. Midway and into the finish the thin layer of sweet malts recedes leaving a modest degree of grapefruit like citrus bitterness that heads into the finish. After another sample this ends pleasingly bitter and forces your hand making you try a third sample. Nice IPA.

Handbottled (thanks K.B.!). HAzy goldeny orange colour with a mediumsized foamy white head. Aroma is citrus fruits, grass, some spruce as well as mild honey and some sweet caramel maltyness. Flavour is rather fruity and floral hoppyness along with some crisp and sweet maltyness. Very nice balance for an IPA. Highly drinkable and refreshing.

Draft. Amber and hazy. Earthy, slightly caramelly nose. Earthy hops, moderate bitterness and good balance. Was a go-to beer for me on my visit to NOLA.

Growler thanks to Mora2000. Pours with a hazed orange hued body and a thick, bone hued white head that lasts. Some small particles floating around. Aromas of citrus, pine, light tropical fruit, a hint of alcohol and a clean, bready 2 row. A bit of tangerine. Flavors are citrusy, tangerine, pomelo. A bit husky/nutty on the grain side of things. Some grassy hop presence. Medium carbonation, dry and a bit thin.

(Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm, 9 Aug 2011) Amber colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of orange, apricots, caramel and citrussy hops. Fruity, malty taste with dried apricots, orange peel, grapefruit and a generous citrussy bitterness in the finish. Slightly more than medium body, with balanced sweetness. Really nice and tasty.

Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm. Hazy amber, small head. Aroma of grapefruit peels. Mid sweet with medium body and clean, rounded mouthfeel. Lots of resiny grapefruit peels. Really bitter finish. Pretty good IPA.

On tap at Akkurat, August 2011. My first beer from Nola. Slightly hazy golden with a fluffy white head. Hoppy and a rather sweet aroma. The taste was fruity and quite balanced. A good beer.
