Romano beans used by bygone brewers provide body, as the flavors of dark malt, cocoa and coffee are rounded out by smooth vanilla. The result is a quadrality of roasted, savory, and complex flavors. Modern formulation meets Baltic tradition and BKLYN partnership… it’s Mad Science.
Baltic lore spoke of a land where dark, rich and satisfying beer, brewed of beans and barley, fell in showers. Prepared in cauldrons and consumed from horns, this was truly the drink of the gods. Centuries later, an all-sating dark ale was resurrected at Sixpoint: 3BEANS was created from the BKLYN trifecta of Sixpoint, Stumptown cold-brew and Mast Brothers cacao husks... ...no formulation is ever finished — the quest for improvement is ingrained n Mad Scientist DNA. Madagascar vanilla, the legendary 4th bean, rounds out and enriches the bold flavors of barley, cacao husks and cold-brew coffee.

Can from Top Hops, NYC. It pours opaque, near black with a thick light tan head. The nose is sweet, sticky, vanilla, chocolate, sweet coffee.... Pretty much a filthy Starbucks frappachino. The taste is so very sweet, lightly bitter, coffee grounds, vanilla fudge, chocolate, alcohol boost, dark fruits, rocky road and some astringency with coffee cake on the finish. Medium + body and moderate+ carbonation. Far too sweet and boosty for me. Rather one dimensional also. "Not my kind of beer"....

12 ounce can. Pours a nearly jet black color with a medium beige head. A big sweet coffee lactose nose. The flavor is similar; rich coffee, chocolate, smoke perhaps, dark fruit. Solid. Not overly a coffee beer, more a smooth silky porter.

From a can it is a dark brown with an ecru head. The aroma is coffee and the taste is a bitter sweet flavor that resonates coffee and black licorice on the palate.

Can: Sweet coffee nose, chocolate underneath. Black, thick sticky beige head. Sweet coffee, smoke, charred meat. Chocolate and soy sauce at midpalate. Vanilla and charred oak finish. Full body, intense, easy carbonation, somewhat creamy. Very complex, excellent transitions, a meal in a glass.
