Hop varieties take a minimum of 10 years to develop, and the overwhelming majority of experimental new crosses end in failure. In spite of this, every now and then, a new combination comes along not only with the power to resist downy mildew and verticillium wilt, but also to change the industry forever. HBC 638 has been generating a ton of enthusiasm as it reaches the final stages of the breeding verification process, and we think this one’s going the distance.
HBC 638 Single Hop IPA pours a shimmering gold with sturdy white foam. Bright aromas of calamansi, pineapple and lemon precede zesty flavors of kumquat, mango and lime zest before a radiant pomelo finish.

16 oz. can, pours a hazy pale golden blonde with a small white head. Nose has a strange hop expression—somewhat sweaty, light floral character, and some gentle citrus. Flavour is much the same, with a sweaty, dry, floral hop expression, and a dry bready malt base. Not a fan of the hop expression whatsoever. A rare miss from these guys.

Orange body with white head. Hoppy aroma from a single hop. Balanced hop and malt taste. Good body, lasting finish.
