"It has the colour of onion skin", said a voice behind me.
It was Raymond Coumans.
He was admiring the colour of the raspberry lambic reflecting in the red copper of the buckets used to empty the barrels. At that time (1986), "Raspberry-Lambic" already was synonymous with a sweet, artificially flavoured beer. This is why we decided to distinguish our beer from the other raspberry beers. Raymond proposed to call it a rosé, dedicated not to Bacchus but to Gambrinus.
The process to make this beer is identical to the one to make Kriek. When young, the Rosé de Gambrinus will still present its full fruity taste. Later on, the lambic taste will become dominant at the expense of the fruit taste.

Taster at home courtesy of Sander, big thanks. redish clear color, small pink head. smells raspberries, lactic, some funk, barnyard, bit parfumy. nice smell. medium body, soft carbonation. tastes raspberries, some funk, citric, bit lactic, grassy. finishes dry and rather sour with notes of raspberries, grass and citrus. overall good but just very sour, balance not that great, but liked the funky notes. Overall still quite good though.

RdG - 375ml - Bottled: 08-March-2021
2021 cork with Season 20/21
Not sure I ever tried a RdG that fresh, maybe at the brewery itself as a taster after the brewery tours. Lovely deep red color. Intense raspberry nose. And really fresh bright raspberry in

FLN, delicious funky raspberry jam, carby but settles, mostly barn funk but some butt funk from the dry cork I imagine, but gone with the wind.

Pours a medium, luminous red, with half a finger of pinkish head that recedes quite quickly, but still leaves a bit of lacing. Medium intensity in the aroma: a soft doughish base, strong raspberry notes, lemon/citric notes, rustic/funky notes at minimum (cardboard?). Taste has a light sweet base, soon overcomed by rather strong (even per style) sourness. Sourness is slightly lactic, mainly citric. Finish is quite dry for the style, with a clean fruity note (half raspberry, half lemon). Taste notes of raspberry, lemon, light doughish base, only slight funky hints. Medium bodied with quite light carbonation, a rather full mouthfeel for a 5% abv beer. This was consumed fresh as suggedted by the brewery (bottled december 2020). The fruity notes were surely bright and intense, but not too deep, and there was not much lambic complexity to speak of. Still, an enjoyable drink.

28 sept 2015. W aromacie wciaz intensywne maliny z o dziwo rabarbarem, wymieszane z dzikoscia, mniej grzeczna niz w swiezym, skorzana dosc, zero jakichs piwnicznych aromatow. W uscie zywe, mocno nasycone, zaskakujaco kwasne. Trzyma klase acz ciut za stary
