Flaske 0,375l. Gave fra Rune. Delt med Odd før jobbens juletilstelning 12 Des 13. Svart. Høyt mokkafarget skum som varer. Kniplingslacing. God aroma. Litt kaffe med et lite innslag av pærer. Hint av lakris. Smaken er mye kaffe. Litt metallisk.

Bottle at home. Pitch-black in the glass, but is also topped with a beautiful light brown and creamy foam head. Very welcoming. The aroma strikes one in the face as soon as the crown cork is off, and is characterized by a lot of roastedness. However, there�s still a good dose of grassy hops but is also sweet with touches of dark chocolate, coffee and oak. In the taste the beer is even more roasted, and have a weak ash touch. Hops is definitely present in the flavour too, and a little touch of horseradish. Mouth feel is rich and oily and has a medium to strong bitterness. A really interesting and tasty beer, complex, but with a balanced flavor.

Black body, mostly opaque, with a diminishing dark tan head and light chestnut tinges on the edges, some sediment left behind. Low retention.
Coffee in the nose. Lots of it. Some chocolate sweetness. Mostly coffee though. Other than the usual beaniness that comes with this style (coffee stout), it’s clean and free of alcohol fumes. Not too sweet, almost no happiness. Nonetheless, I just don’t get these beers. Sure, they don’t do anything wrong and it does display the coffee well, but I just dont think a huge whiff of coffee really is what I’m lookin for in a beer. Maybe it’s just me.
Flavor is sweet, not cloyingly so, but very syrupy and but for the bottle conditioned carbonation, it would be too much. Heavily coffeeish, sweet, clean, but just too one-dimensional. To its credit it gets better with warming, not worse. Brown sugar, molasses, vanilla, milk chocolate. Some roast bitterness lingers on the finish. Very free from booziness, I think that’s my favorite part (and quite surprising). Did they use an American ale yeast? Must have. Ok, fine, it’s grown on me. Just don’t care for the bittersweet soy sauce flavor that hits the back of the throat. And the candi sugar-like sweetness.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a rather large dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of medium sweet chocolates notes with light roasted malt notes. Taste is also dominated some black chocolates notes with light roasted malt, light coffee notes with light residual sugars. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no clear apparent alcohol. Enjoyable but a bit short in terms of complexity.
