200ml on tap at Mikkeller & Friends. Good lacing from a fragile tan-coloured head. Pitch black, more or less. Nose of sweet chocolate and grassy hops. Coffee to the fore added by taste of vanilla and chocolate. Long-lived finish of roasted malts. Well bodied and well balanced. Enjoying (Copenhagen, 22.05.2013).

Huge greige head, leaving textbook lace over virtually black beer. Hops! Fragrant oily hops, green, cypress aroma. There might be some coffee behind them, but it is completely subdued by the hops. Coffee is there in the mouth, though the hops are far from beaten. Finish is pure roastiness, but the resiny dryness of the hopoils lets itself known throughout. Certain sweetness overall, as café noir cookies, but with alpha-acids. Touch of sparadrap. Very thick, onctuous, but also slightly burning MF, faint astringency. Original in its precarious coffee-hops balance.

Tap at Fermentoren, Copenhagen. Poured a dark mahogany with a thin bubbly tan head. The aroma is peat and malt. The flavour is big bitter, coffee, dark chocolate and alcohol liqourice. A very nice beer, but I’d prefer a lower ABV with less bitterness. More is not always best.

Bottle, 375cl. A black one, topped by a small, dark tan head leaving some lacings. Coffee, roasted malts, some dark chocolate, and a little hoppy touch in the aroma. The flavor has loads of coffee, as well as roasted malts, dark chocolate and a faint touch of vegetables. Full body, soft carbonation. Lasting roasted finish. A nice beer, that’s for sure, but maybe a bit one-dimensional. 130516

Bottle 375ml @ Geokkjer
Pours pitch black with a tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, caramel and floral. Taste is medium to heavy sweet and medium bitter with a long chocolate, coffee and bitter finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

On tap at the fermentoren. Thin creamy tan head. Clear black pour (but the light was bad). Sweet but smooth beer. Nice coffee notes

bottle from hopduvel. pous SOOO nice! black, brown big rising foam. directly get the scent of coffee, roasted malts. btw, coffee ( the word) aint on the label. otherwise its perfectly the same. so i figured, it’s this beer. waaw. so bitter, intence smell . nice ! feels pretty wattery (unexpected) . coffee, bitter, oaty, roasted malts, some light amount of smoke. low carbo. ok beer... but for 10 % , i’d expect it to be WAY motre thick...

Bouteille 12,7oz.

Bottle from Yamaichi. Nose of coffee, cream, chocolate, wood, light soy. Beautiful head: fine, high brown with bubbles in the center, on pitch black beer.   Sweet dark malts, chocolate, charcoal, coffee, vanilla. Quite tasty, sweet but then quite burnt and bitter. Very big and tasty. Nice body too. A nice imperial coffee stout that is pretty well balanced.
