Black and thick pour. Wow, this is sweet. Coffee, chocolate, dark fruits, molasses, melted sugar. Full, slick body. So freaking sweet and sugary. Finish is ultra sweet. Too sweet for me.

Keg at the Star and Garter, Bromley. Black pour with a beige head. Aromas of dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, chocolate raisin, cocoa. Oodles of dark roast coffee in the flavour backed up by some dark berries, chocolate, cola. Long alcohol burn. Lovely stuff.

Almost undrinkably sweet, with a massive dose of sugary dark chocolate mixed with maraschino cherry and raisins, backed up by an assertive, acidic coffee backbone and a long bitter finish. Great nose, loads of mocha and roast, and the pour is lovely, a deep dark brown with a moderate beige head and ample lacing. Texture is thin and watery, but the alcohol is well-hidden, at least. But the sweetness is overbearing; the cola-like middle leads to a cloy back end, only escalating as it warms. Not for me.

BOTTLE 37 CL shared. Pitch black, dark espresso head. Lots of earthy coffee, coffee grounds, a little acrid coffee. Too much coffee here! Sweet lactose style impy taste, clashing which acrid coffee roast, some hops in the finish. Too sweet, too much coffee. Just Ok.

Keg at the bottle shop druid Street during the tap takeover. An opaque jet black coloured pour with a lasting thin tan head. Aroma is liquorice black malts, spicy woody coffee, raw coffee bean, little veg pepper, milky sweet. Flavour is composed of semi sweet lactose, spicy coffee, earthy, liquorice, marshmallow, hint of wood, tangy finish. Palate is rounded, medium full bodied lactose, lowish carbonation. Good.

Wow. What a beer. Pours black with almost no head. Aroma is sweet and extremely coffee centered. Some hops, surprisingly refreshing and dark malts. Medium to heavy body, thick mouthfeel, very sweet and rich. Dark malts, hops and especially loads of coffee. What a brilliant Imperial stout!

Tap at Erzbierschof Bern. Pours pitch black with a soft brown foam. Aroma is sugar, marzipan, light chocolate, coffee, but really mostly candy and sugar. Body is heavy and extremely sweet. Soft carbonation, sticky, sugar and candy flavours. Lightly boozy towards the long sweet palate. This beer is diabetes, rather too much for me.
