Aroma Coma is our summer seasonal India Pale Ale. We’ve brewed it annually since 2009 for a local IPA festival, where it was selected one of the top three beers in the competition. The malt bill consists of almost all 2-row barley malt, with a touch of Caramalt for body - leaving you with a delightfully hop-forward experience. Generous amounts of Cascade, Chinook, CTZ & Citra hops create the citrus, pine, and floral notes. Breathe ’Em in and enjoy!

draft @ the source. Smells like citrus peel, grapefruit, mango then floral hops. Flavor is lightly juicy with the citrus. Notes of honey and grain through the center. The finish displays the floral hops just like the aroma. Dry texture with a medium body. Carbonation give a light tingle. Overall pretty nice.

Poured from a 22oz bottle dated 07/25/2014; bottle dates are such a great thing on IPAs. Aroma is a hop bomb with lots of citrus notes, especially grapefruit, orange and tangerine but also hints of lime. Moderate pine resin notes with medium light notes of stone fruit and tropical fruit. Light cracker malt note with a hint of caramel. Pours a slightly hazy, golden color with a big, thick, fluffy white head that shows great retention. Moderately high lacing with small legs. Flavor is slightly sweet with a nice grainy, cracker note but also some light rye spice and hints of caramel. Moderate hop notes similar to the aroma but with more stone fruit and a bit less pine resin. Medium strong bitterness. A hint of alcohol in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation and a slight stickiness, though the hops help dry out the finish. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall a very nice, fresh IPA from Drake’s. I personally wouldn’t mind if it were drier with a bit thinner body, but I may be in the minority there. Lots of nice hop flavors though I suppose I would prefer a bit less pine in the aroma.

Bottle. Pine/grapefruit peel and orange caramel malt aroma. Hazy golden yellow with moderate head. Sweet orange caramel malt and moderately bitter earthy pine and grapefruit peel flavor. Nice but nothing to set it apart.

Bottle at Beermongers. Pours a clear copper color with a medium white head. A light perfumy head, some citrus and biscuit. The flavor is great: clean, low bitterness, honey, bit sweet oranges, resin, floral. Toast. Very nice.

Draft - Huge fresh pine aroma. Clear gold with a thin rich head. An earthy, resinous, pine hops, and candy sweetness. Extremely light and sessionable. I expected more, but less is more sometimes. I could drink this all day.

9/VIII/13 - 1Pt. 6Fl. Oz. bottle @ De Hopduvel, shared with Bobochamp - bottled: VII/9/13 (2013-702) Thanks to Jerome for the bottle!

Clear orange beer, creamy off-white to light yellow head, little stable, pretty adhesive. Aroma: lots of citrus, lots of exotic fruits, passion fruit, pineapple, piny and resinous, fruity bubble gum. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: surprisingly not as fruity as one would expect from the aroma. Resinous bitter hops, citrus, hint of exotic fruits, dry woody touch. Aftertaste: very dry and bitter hops, citrus, bitter grapefruit, almost chemical, dry and bitter ending. Not balanced enough, for me it needs a more malty backbone to support the huge bitterness of this ale, because now it's a bit too bitter. Yeah, I said it...
