Ahh, Citra Pale Ale. There’s a reason so many refer to you as “old reliable”. One whiff and game over… you’re in love. With American two-row barley, a touch of Vienna malt and an intentionally irresponsible amount of Citra in the dry hop, this is the definition of a true West Coast Pale Ale.

Keg at the Commons Ale House, Santa Monica, 16/04/14. Clear pale golden with a moderate off white covering. Nose is pine, bitter hops, grass, mandarin, grapefruit, solid aromas! Taste comprises pine, mango, bitter citrics, grassy knolls, orange pith, grapefruit. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi aggressive hop bitterness in the close. Super solid APA!

Bomber from Whole Foods in Davis, CA. Pours translucent gold with a slight white head. Light citrus aroma. Med + body. Flavor is citrus - but not burning citrus - over some light caramel. Well, maybe there is a little hop burn. There’s a lot of flavor, but it doesn’t seem as intense as I’d like. Gotta admit it’s more hoppy than a lot of APAs.

On tap (at multiple places). Pours with a mild hazy golden body with a lasting white head. Aromas are of tropical fruit, stone fruit, peaches, citrus, and mild caramel. Flavors are of citrus, quite hoppy, caramel, mango, fruity. Bready malt. A pretty flawless APA. Lively bubbles. Dry. Lingering grassy character.
