Schitterend!

(Bottle, 0.33 l - BB 12/2017, at One Pint Pub, 20151219) The beer poured clear and mahogany coloured. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had clove, yeast and caramel. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were caramel, yeast, clove, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was spicy, sweet and bitter. A but too spicy brew. A rather nice balance still.

First beer from the Oosteke Brouwers, commercialised through Contreras. Loose and quickly dissolving, eventually all but vanishing, off-white head, colour lightly hazy amber. Aroma of liquorice, cloves, sherry, candied orange, grapefruit peel and brown sugar; sweet and spicy taste, somewhat thin body in relation to its ABV probably due to undercarbonation, vinous and smooth mouthfeel, bit resinous, cloves and liquorice again, sweetness suddenly changing into bitterness in the finish, quite long and dry, with warming, brandy-like alcohol. Conceived as a quadrupel, but this actually reminded me more of an American style barley wine with a Belgian twist, if you get my drift... Interesting.
