The legend of Hogus Maximus was first recorded over 3000 beers ago in South Africa. After first emerging as Hogus Maximus Triple IPA, we continuously fed the beast until it tired of the buffet. A year-long rest in freshly dumped bourbon barrels transformed this beer into a superbly balanced and gratifyingly lavish strong ale. We pulled off a portion and aged it on freshly roasted coffee beans provided by our neighbors at Caffé Lusso. Their expertly crafted coffee layers in smooth milk chocolate and coffee aromas and accentuates the bourbon and vanilla in this stellar brew.

On tap at WABF 2026, pours a clear copper with a small white head. Aroma is full of coffee, ample sugary malt, toffee, and light booze. Flavour is robust, with intense coffee, sugars, toffee, and toasted malt. Absurdly well-balanced for a 15% coffee strong ale. Excellent.

On tap at WA Brewers Fest 2026. Pours clear gold with a white head. Dry bready malts, digestive crackers, and dry grassy hops on the nose. Flavour is quite sweet up front, lots of biscuits, booze is there, and more of the resin and dry grass from the hops coming through in the finish. Very nicely executed for such a strong beer.
