Trouble in paradise! A frivolous damsel enters the scene. It is a young lady that over a few months matured in oak wine barrels, which gave her a deep but soft-bitter tannin aftertaste. The taste is full and complex because the brewers induced a controlled souring during the ripening process. The Mam´zelle is by origin a blond beer. Ripening gave her a soft red glow. This is the reason why she is called ‘high-blond’. The alcohol percentage is 8.5 volume. Brewers maintain that she is ‘untameable’.

Funky aroma with vinegar and yeasty tones. Feels a bit like oud bruin. Flavour has vinegar, yeasty tones, some citrus and an unpleasant milky off-flavour. Not my thing.

Bottle 0.33l at HBF 2014, Helsinki. Colour is slightly cloudy golden with small white head. Aromas and flavours: Sourness, fruits and berries. This is more like light lambic. Can’t find any Belgian strong ale in this.

Slightly hazy golden colour, white head. Light sour aroma, malts, citrus, light butter. Light sour flavour, citrus, malts, bit fruity, light wine touch. Finish citrus, lemon peel, white wine (surprisingly enough). Quite surprising and nice beer!

Bottle from Asao. Tangy funky nose, lactic, citrus, funk and dust. Cloudy orange gold, high, fine head. Sweet stone fruits, wood, citrus, barnyard, sour, sweet background with wild funk. Yogurt, vanilla. Wow, this is great. Very complex and wild, yet lovely smooth flavors. Excellent. Big surprise from an unknown brewer. A Belgian version of Hill Farmstead?

Bottle share at Ma Che, Roma, 09/02/13. thanks to Luca (Mortlach). Hazed mid amber with a good sized frothy white head that retains well. Nose is brett forward, sour/tarte fruits, farmy, lemon, citrus, yeast. Taste comprises brett, sour notes, grass, spice, lemon, citrus, yeast. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation leading to a crisp finish. Decent.

09/02/2013 330ml bottle.

(bottle, 33cl) Hazy, golden colour with a medium-sized and slightly off-white foamy head. Yeasty, slightly mouldy and oaky, woody malty aroma with fruity notes of cherries and berries, accompanied by hints of honey and shades of caramel and vanilla. Sweet flavour, medium to full bodied with a smooth carbonation. Moderately oaky malty taste with vinous fruity notes of red currant and cherries; moderately sweet vinous-fruity, even a bit acidic finish with tannic spots in the aftertaste. Very interesting brew. 07.II.13
