Good American take on a German-style Hefe, nothing groundbreaking but fills in the blanks like a good wheat beer should. Doesn’t look too great, no, and neither does the nose amaze, but the flavor pats your belly and gives you a hug. Yeah, bananas and cloves, but that’s what you expect with a hefe, and Heifer-in-Wheat proves reliable. Little bit of an odd saltiness on the finish, and could use more bubbles, but still a passable Summer beer. (5/14/09)

Hazy, not fully though, golden coloured body with some orange tints and a thin white head. Aroma of pungent wheat, corn, coriander seed, oranges and a touch of bananas. Medium-bodied; Assertive spice character with curacao and coriander seed the strongest, but showing a touch of yeast and a light corny taste. Aftertaste is relatively mild with wheat by far the strongest, then yeast and finishing with a bit of caster sugar sweetness. Overall, a good german hef - not amazing, but a well-done beer showing the characteristics it should have. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Ye Olde Spirit Shop in Frederick, Maryland on 29-July-2010 sampled at home in Washington on 22-October-2010.

12 oz. bottle. Pored into a Weizen. Pours pale gold ( almost totally transparent ) with small white head. Very little to no lacing. Aroma is sweet and wheaty with considerable german wheat spice to it. Also, an unexpected malt smell there as well... no typical banana or clove there at all. Taste is yeasty and wheat. VERY weak Banana or clove. Not bad, it fact its a little different. For an Amercian Hefe, overall decent. Has some drinkability/ after I finish the 1st one, I was reaching for another....

Bottle. Pours a cloudy, glowing gold with a small, white head. Perfect aroma of wheat, yeast, banana, clove and bubblegum. (After I wrote that last part I glanced at the description and noticed I said the same thing.) Flavor is sweet, wheaty, lightly malty, with wonderful, rich fruit notes. Medium bodied with fine carbonation and a smooth, at times chewy mouthfeel. Finishes with more wheat, yeast and fruit, very clean. One of the best Hefes I’ve ever had, American or otherwise.

12 ounce bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a hazy golden-lemon color with a large creamy head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of tart citrus, caramel and bread. The taste is caramel, coriander, bread and a citrus and apple fruity finish. Medium bodied and assertively carbonated. Decent hefe. 5/26/10.

Bottle from thirdeye11. Unknowingly a best before of 11/18/08. Pours with a white head over a hazy golden body. Aroma is fruity, with honey, clove and wheat. Taste is papery, wheat and spice. Fizzy and dry.

Pours bright gold into a Sam glass. Bright white cola head crackles and recedes to hug rim. Clove and banana aromas. Crisp with wheat, cloves, banana and slight bubblegum. Dry finish. Not a hefe - no sediment and a crackly little head; but still a good flavored wheat.

Thanks to decaturstevo for sharing this one at his Februmergency Tasting. I like mey German Hefeweizens to be a cloudy bright yellow with a tall lasting white head and flavors and aromas of banana, clove and yeasty malt. Much of that was lacking in this one. Pours clear gold with a small white head. Sweet candy lemon aroma. Lightly bitter flavor profile with many of the characteristic "hefe" esters missing. light bodied.
