Narragansett Lager is old reliable. It was the first beer brewed by “The Original Six” back in 1890, and the best selling beer in New England from the 1930’s to the 1970’s. It has crossed paths with Dr. Seuss, it was famously crushed by Captain Quint in Jaws, and it was the first alcoholic beverage to partner with a professional sports team – the Boston Red Sox from 1944-1975. Drinking a Lager is drinking to New England history. Hi Neighbor! Have a ‘Gansett!

[16oz can from Total Wines, Naples, FL.] A bright straw coloured pour with a tight creamy white head and light carbonation; light grassy aroma; sweet cereal grain taste; a hint of bitterness, and nothing more. A perfectly acceptable light lager.

Optisch helles Lager, made on honor, sold on merit, hätte mich vielleicht stutzig machen sollen - aber hey, Rhode Island Biere kriegste nicht so oft. In der Nase echt grenzwertig, im Trunk sehr plädderich, billiges Pale Lager, Budweiser lässt grüßen.

On tap at Hogshead Tavern. Pours orange gold. Peach, orange, lemon, bit of sulfur, bit of sweetcorn. Medium body. Not a bad example.

Fairly bland. Nasty stuff. Beer has some white out and adjunct, cloying finish. Can.

Pours amber with a thick white head. Aroma is slight and sweet. Tastes like a premium lager. Sweet malt taste with a hint of hops. Tad more flavorful than a comparable premium lager. Palate is extremely simple. Drinkable but unremarkable.

47,3 cl can @ Timo A’s Maritimes Tasting. Thanks!
Aroma is quite nothing – perhaps some sweet malt and starch. Flavour is also quite nothing with malty tones, starch and some mild hoppy tones. Close to some American lagers without any taste.

Can. Golden body with a short, white head. Anemic aroma at best. Raw grain, corn. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and lightly bitter. Thin body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Light malt and sweet corn taste. Light citrus with a very light bitterness in the finish. Not much going on here, but then it’s not flaw-filled either.
