Paradox Compass Box is the latest of our whisky cask aged imperial stouts to be released from its smoky, shadowy cocoon.
Our huge stout was aged in Compass Box great King Street barrels for 221 days before bottling.
Full bodied, crashing roasty malt flavours are tempered by a rich chocolate character, balanced with light smoke and an extra layer of orange oil complexity.
Malts: Cara, Carafa, Dark Crystal, Extra Pale, Munich
Hops: Columbus, First Gold, Saaz

Batch 132 - Poured into a teku showing pitch black with thin coffee rims and sparse latte colored foam. The nose shows a lot of toasted oak, dark chocolate, roasted malts, and hints of smoke. The palate is light carbonated and medium to full bodied. The first instance shows a lot of calm chocolate notes. A light raisin sweetness shows throughout. Also Light notes of toasted oak in the background. The finish shows practically no bitterness but smoke and roasted malts appear on the finish accompanied by the toasted oak. An interesting whisky barrel aged stout for sure.

practically black colour, moderate sized, creamy brown head, which collapses quite quickly as expected in case of a beer with 15% ABV; aroma of coffee, whisky, herbal liqueur, hints of vanilla, tobacco, chocolate and dried fruits like plum and figs; taste of coffee, herbal liqueur, whisky, dried fruits, syrupy notes and spicy alcohol; extremely complex βbeerβ

Bottle. Opaque black liquid with small to medium tan head. Aroma of bourbon, whisky, vanilla, raw sugar, toffee, chocolate, dried fruit and port wine. Taste is medium sweet and light to medium bitter with notes of chocolate, licorice, wood and whisky. Tiny bit sour. Full bodied with medium carbonation. Really good. The booze balances the sweetness. Good version of this beer.

Tasting at Mattβs, batch 132, bb 13/03/25
Black color, small brownish head. Mild aroma of dark chocolate and light peat. Strong roasted malt flavor, moderate residual sweetness; strong dark chocolate, a bit too roasty and burnt; lightly peaty; a bit too boozy. No harmony.
Good beer, excessive though.

330mL bottle, pours black with a small beige head. Nose is kind of muffled, with whiskey notes, chalk, and bitter dry cocoa. Flavour is quite roasted and smoky from the whiskey, with complex whiskey notes, light smoke, roasted malt and dry wood. Fairly boozy, but not too excessive. Complex, warming and balanced. Tastes much better than it smells. Really nice stuff.
