Paradox Compass Box is the latest of our whisky cask aged imperial stouts to be released from its smoky, shadowy cocoon.

Our huge stout was aged in Compass Box great King Street barrels for 221 days before bottling.

Full bodied, crashing roasty malt flavours are tempered by a rich chocolate character, balanced with light smoke and an extra layer of orange oil complexity.

Malts: Cara, Carafa, Dark Crystal, Extra Pale, Munich
Hops: Columbus, First Gold, Saaz

Thank you! Sampled draft @ BrewDog Brussels. Black. Nose is huge on spirit in a nice & warming way, heavy whiskey, barrel, oak, mocha, faintly vinous, big but also simple. Taste is sweet, a bit boozy, warming, whiskey, rather oxidized, varnish, oak, bit thin, chocolate, vanilla,… Big, whiskey is nice, quite simple, base feels a touch too oxidized, some oxidation. Syrupy & touch thinned, oxidized body. Good whiskey, simple but satisfactory based, touch too oxidized, kept just a bit too long. Nice & simple brew. Enjoyable for sure.

Bottled 330ml. -Deep black coloured, medium sized brown head, chocolate and alcohol in the nose. Roasted malt, dark chocolate, alcohol, notes of wood and whisky with some spices in the finish. Alcohol is noticable but well balanced. For sure in my TOP 5 beers this year.

Alcohol bite, carbonation also, then sweet, extremely roasty, wooden barrel aromas. Medium to full body. Alcohol present to the finish. A strong beer.

Pleasant flavours of chocolate, earth, discreet molasses, oak vanilla, plums, and whisky. Roasted bitterness lingering all the way to Black Door. Full bodied. Very nice (26.09.2015).
