Paradox Compass Box is the latest of our whisky cask aged imperial stouts to be released from its smoky, shadowy cocoon.
Our huge stout was aged in Compass Box great King Street barrels for 221 days before bottling.
Full bodied, crashing roasty malt flavours are tempered by a rich chocolate character, balanced with light smoke and an extra layer of orange oil complexity.
Malts: Cara, Carafa, Dark Crystal, Extra Pale, Munich
Hops: Columbus, First Gold, Saaz

On tap at CBC 2016 - day 2. Pitch black with a medium height tan head. Notes of chocolate, vanilla, bourbon and whiskey. The best in the Paradox series, I think, though Isle of Arran comes close.

Bottle. Black oily pour. Delicious aroma of red fruit, whisky, licorice, oak and plums. Thick taste of whisky, licorice, smoke, oak, ripe red fruit, alcohol warmth, mild roasted malt and indeed some smooth orange. Very nice.

Opaque black beer with a brown, bubbly head that quickly thins out. Plenty going on in the smell: malty chocolate, tangy sweet fruit and you can smell the effect of the barrels as well. It’s a little oily in the mouth and sharp on the tongue. The rich chocolate of the flavour blends beautifully with earthy malt, tangy citrus, the hint of liquor from the barrels and some sugary sweetness in there as well.

Bouteille 33cl, BB 13/03/2025.
