Sour brown ale with red tart cherries. First we mash in a high gravity brown ale recipe with lots of pale ale, brown malt and oats. We then inoculate the resulting wort with a strain of Lactobacillus and let it work for 38 hours before boiling it, adding hops and fermenting with ale yeast. The resulting beer is tangy, malty, slightly sour and downright weird. But we don’t stop there, next we added over 10 pounds per barrel of Oregon red tart cherries, giving a nice sweet and fruity finish.

Kentucky Fried Charleston Trip Beer #12. Draft at Shenanigans, Lexington. Pours a clear dark orange color with a medium sized creamy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of heavy spices, nuts, toffee. The taste is toffee, caramel, popcorn (unbuttered), cherries and a mild tartness in the finish. Medium bodied. A bit odd.

Sampled from the tap at FOBAB 2012. Pours a musty deep amber with a light brown heasd that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has some sweet chocolate and sourness with a bit of dark grains. Flavor has more roasted malts with sour cherries and a hint of chocolate. Didn’t come together for me.
