Excessive hopping rendered moot a modest plan to brew a seasonal winter warmer, and since the original batch was brewed on Election Day, 2002, Elector continued to make democracy pointless and redefine the Imperial Red category.

Sample at Heorot in Muncie, IN. The beer pours a clear brownish-amber color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily. Thin rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of dark malt, caramel and hops. Medium body with flavors of piney hops and malt plus a touch of citrus. The finish is hoppy up front and settles to a sweet malty aftertaste. Decent Imperial Red overall.

tap at Indiana winterfest - Pours amber and has a nice, earthy, hopped aroma. The flavor is of caramel malt with big, citrus accented hops and a bitter finish. It’s medium bodied and very enjoyable.

Sampled from the tap at the 2010 Indiana Winterfest. Poured a clear amber brown with a yellowish brown head. Aroma was full of citrus and spruce hops. Flavor was a bit more subdued with some malt coming into the profile with citrus hops at the beginning and pine hops at the finish.

On tap at Rich O’s Publick House when I stopped on the way to Dark Lord Day. A persistent, tight white head forms easily over this clear, medium dark amber brew. The aroma showcases some flowery hops and supportive malt. Well balanced betweent he malt sweetness and the hop bitterness, with the hop bitterness lingering into the finish. A bit thin, but an easy drinker nevertheless.
