Excessive hopping rendered moot a modest plan to brew a seasonal winter warmer, and since the original batch was brewed on Election Day, 2002, Elector continued to make democracy pointless and redefine the Imperial Red category.

On tap at New Albanian, pours a cloudy amber orange with a medium beige head. Aroma brings out lots of resinous hops upfront, followed by caramel bready malt and some sticky toffee. Flavour is along the same lines, with resinous hops galore upfront, and a big caramel bready malt backbone. Excellent interplay between the hops and malt. Chewy and balanced. Really good.

22oz bomber, courtesy of shrubber85, pours with a clear ruby red amber body that supports a nearly tight tan head of foam. The aroma offers up a mix of sweet caramel, molasses, crisp ripe red apples, pine hops and some ripe cherry notes. This has a pretty sweet aroma but the molasses to toffee notes takes this to a better place. The taste starts with sweet malts, sweet caramel malts and ripe cherries before pine hops and a dash of roasted malts join in to provide some balance. It gets a touch toffee and molasses like here and there too for adding richness and interest. Pretty nice.

5 oz sample draft at the New Albanian Pizzeria and Public House in New Albany, Indiana. The pour is a slightly hazed copper reddish with a light tan head. The aroma is big malt grain, warm cereal. The taste is big on the grain, cereal fresh, lightly caramel along with a bright, almost chemical astringent bitterness. The palate is medium bodied, soft carbonation, and a bit of alcohol heat on the dry finish particularly as the warmed. This was well made though not totally my type of beer.
