Can. Boatswain Heavy Lifting Vessel version of this beer. Light brown with a two finger head. Aroma and taste is way too boozy.

12 ounce can labeled as Boatswain H.L.V. Ale. Orange copper pour. Large frothy beige head. Clinging lace. Toasted malt aroma hints at toffee. Earthy toasted malt flavor has a big bitter component mid taste. Black pepper finish is less than stellar.

At a tasting, thanks, as Rhinelander Boatswain, small stable bubbly head , quite clear deep oxidized orange color, bready flavor with hints of cake, oxidation, jam and wood, malty flavor, light to medium and a bit coarse bitterness. Drinkable but nothing too exciting.

Boatswain H.L.V. into pub glass from Trader Joe's. Appearance is lightly hazy reddish-brown with nice sparkle, cap of beige fizzy head with poor retention and trace lacing. Aroma is dominant yeasty dough, light fruit and candied sugar. Taste is yeasty dough (almost a little unfinished), light caramel. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with slick texture, lively carbonation (that dominates taste/palate experience) with dry mix of sweet and bitter finish. Overall, between a slightly unfinished aroma/taste and over-carbonation, this was not that pleasant to drink.

Can from Trader Joes. Medium brown in colour, with a thin, off-white, head. Fairly raw alcohol, some sweetness, little else. Little in return for the high ABV.

Bottled. A brown beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, and bread. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, and bread, leading to a bitter finish.

22 oz bottle poured into a nonic pint glass. Bought from Trader Joe’s, labeled as Boatswain H.L.V. Ale Heavy Lift Vessel. Hazy amber brown with close to two fingers of beige head. Aromas of caramel, malt, some figs, light toasty notes. Tastes of dark fruit, caramel, sweet syrup. Medium-light body with a dry finish. Cloying sweetness.

From Trader Joe’s Nashua, a $2.79 bomber, what a deal! Labeled as Boatswain HLV. Thicker looking dark cloudy ice tea color. Somewhat viscous on the palate as well, medicinal in taste. It shows it’s 7% up front. Some barely sizzling co2 in there saves it. Boosts my overall score by a few points because of the price, otherwise a thicker high alky malty thang that is difficult until you down a 10 oz; then rest goes pretty easy after you numb up the synapses a little. .
