A Russian Imperial Stout is simply a stout with extra everything! Despite what the name suggests the beer was first brewed in 19th century England for export to the Russian court.

Our interpretation of this style is a brooding beer with a thick body and generous tones of liquorice, coffee and chocolate. A robust and complex beer best enjoyed in moderate amounts.

At Ghent Beer Society's Beer Quiz; shared with Anke & Pieter!
Cloudy black with a lasting, beige head. Aroma of dark & dried fruits, roasted malt, coffee (with milk), some caramel, a dash of cream. It tastes medium caramel-like sweet and light roasted, spicy bitter with a long, toasty, finish & waming alcohol. Full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. A 'benchmark' Imperial Stout, utterly enjoyable, what more can one say?

Bottle 33 cl. Balck with a light brown head. Aroma of chocolate, dark fruits and some licorice sense. Sweet taste with a good warm chocolate and licorice end. Full bodied, nice taste, want more aroma. BB. 08.2019.

Bottle at home thanks to Nisse666 for the bottle! Almost black with dark beige head. Sweet chocolate up front but also quite fruity with peach, red currants, and sweet pear. Light dry cocoa as well, strong sweet malts with toffee and malt syrup, some roasted grains in the background. Quite sweet with some roasty bitterness. Almost full bodied with slick oily feel and a bit low carbonation. It's nice but also lacking some depth for me.

In der Nase Röstmalz, dunkle Schokolade. Im Trunk sehr schokoladig, süß, dann kommt die Röstung und schnell Zartbitter. Langer Schokonachhall. Feines Dessertbier.

Bottle on 3 hour Delayed Eurostar train, from Brussels, 29th Septmeber 17. Lucky I'm always carrying beer back! Fancied an IPA, but this is good at Eurostar temperature. Pours black, bubbly tan head, aroma is milk chocolate, cocoa, liquorice, booze. Taste is liquorice, smokey, roasted malts, boozy, a little heat. Soft mouth feel, bitter and dry, not too sweet, nicely balanced, heat and smoke on the finish. Pretty good solid Stout.
