4-Play Porter is a tribute to aviators across the ages for their courage and sense of adventure, especially our friend Marilyn, an acrobatic pilot, that flies a plane nick named 4-Play. It is a traditional English style porter right down to the top fermenting yeast. Brewed with high quality brown malts which gives this ale a light carmel flavor porter fans love.

On tap at Shades of Pale, pours a deep dark mahogany with with a small tan head. Aroma brings out pleasant mild dark fruits and a little toasted malt. Flavour is more subdued, with toasted malt and a touch of red fruits. It's not bad, but lacking oomph as always in this state.

bottle - Pours dark brown with a light tan head and a mild roast malt aroma. The flavor is of roast malt and coffee. It’s light to medium bodied and watery. The flavor is alright but it’s just weak... the body, flavor, everything.

22oz bomber pours with a mahogany body and amber edges supporting a light tan head of foam. The aroma offers up a pleasing earthy dark roasted maltiness, slivers of toffee, burnt malts and a touch of chocolate malts. Mighty nice. The taste is similar and comes across very nicely with dark roasted malts and highly roasted malts tempered by earthy slightly chocolate like roasted malts and a sense of malt sweetened toffee. Wow! Solid big flavor rich porter. 4% is money here.

Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a small creamy tan head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was dry, roasty and a touch woody. The flavor was dry, bitter and roasty with hints of vanilla, wood and coffee. Medium length dry bitter finish with lingering coffee and vanilla. Medium body. Fairly blah.
