Faro Boon is a beer of spontaneous fermentation for which “meertsbier” and old Lambic are blended together. The light brown colour and sour-sweet taste are attained by adding candy sugar before bottling.

A small bottle purchased online from Beers of Europe while home on holiday, and drunk at my place here in Taipei. Aroma: agreeably sour. Appearance: very beautiful clear bronze with great aeration, one finger off-white cream. Palate: medium-bodied and sticky on the tongue, average carbonation; finishes on a rather cloying sweetness. Taste: pretty heavily sweet, rock candy, a suggestion of caramel. There’s some residual sourness there but it can’t break through. My first Faro, ever, and I don’t think it’s going to go down as a favourite style of mine; the appearance is great. [Note to self: 1,000th. rating! 890 on Ratebeer and 110 on Brewver, Feb. 2017 to date, slow but steady, and I’ve enjoyed every moment of it.]

Backlog June 2009. Mahogany body under a thin beige head. Rather mild in aroma, caramel and some acidity. Taste is sweet and sour with ripe fruit and mild funk. Balanced in taste, fine body and decent aftertaste. Not outstanding in any way, but still a very nice made Faro.

Barwa ciemno bursztynowa, lekko zamglone, piana biała, średnio obfita, średnio trwała.
W aromacie lekka dzikość i lekkie nuty owocowe.

Bottle from Beergium. Smells of lovely barnyard funk. Unfortunately, the aroma consists of malt, ripe apples, and plenty of candy sugar. Flavour is sugary sweet and a touch of sourness. Body is medium. Another Faro that doesn’t impress.

Small 250ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Light brown with small consistent white top. Light vinous sourness, apple, malts, earthiness. Taste is quite sweet, caramel, light fruity berry tartness. Light to medium bodied, slick. Decent, quite tasty.

250ml bottle bought as part of a delivery from Beers of Europe and drunk at home. Golden brown, clears with a small uneven off-white head. Bready aroma, some citrus, light vinegar. Sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet. Tastes of sugar syrup, lemon, floral notes. More sugar in the finish. Medium body, soft carbonation. Okay, but recommended only for a style tick.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Clear chestnut with a white head. Musty cobwebby corners, brown sugar, orange and lemon, wood, mild tartness, quite sweet, some raspberry. An interesting and enjoyable brew, albeit a little on the sweet side.
